A new study has highlighted the benefits that becoming energy efficient can have for businesses across the UK.
The research by the Carbon Trust found that firms could save up to £7 million a day by introducing measures such as efficient lighting and switching off electricity equipment which is on standby.
It was also claimed that a third of business leaders are beginning to make tackling climate change more of a priority.
Hugh Jones, solutions director of the Carbon Trust, said: "Our new statistics provide stark evidence that if companies are starting to feel the bite from the economic downtown, the first place to look for cost savings should be their energy bill.
"There are literally millions of pounds going out of the window every day across the UK."
Plans to hold workshops highlighting how firms can improve their carbon footprint have recently been announced by the Carbon Trust.
The organisation is expected to visit areas including York, Cambridge and Birmingham throughout July to give companies advice on the issue.
