Six people have been arrested following the death of a 16-year-old girl at a party, police have said.

Rochelle Rushford, of Pitt Street, Newcastle, collapsed at a party in a flat at Hexham House in the Walker area of Newcastle in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The teenager was taken to hospital where the ambulance service called Northumbria police.

"She was later pronounced dead and a post mortem examination confirmed she had died of heart failure," a force spokesman said.

The six people were arrested on suspicion of drugs supply and bailed pending further enquiries.

Police have appealed for further information as further enquiries are being carried out.
