British people who enjoy regular holidays around Europe or further afield may have an extra incentive to switch energy suppliers and start saving money on their gas and electricity bills.

ABTA – The Travel Association believes air passenger duty is set to rise in line with inflation, potentially making flights from the UK more expensive.

This could stretch the budgets of those without masses of disposable income who still enjoy weekends away or long summer holidays.

But by switching to another provider, they may be able to reduce their monthly outgoings and put aside the spare money to spend on a few days in the sun.

Commenting on the possible rise in tax, Frances Tuke, spokeswoman for the organisation, says: "We're very keen to make sure is that people are not taxed out of the skies because that would be detrimental both to the health of the economy and the tax take."

ABTA – The Travel Association is backing chancellor George Osborne in his quest to examine air taxes more closely.
