People contemplating a switch of energy supplier should be aware it is not the only path to saving money that is open to them.
The Westborough News explains there are a number of steps individuals can take around the home to reduce consumption and get more from power.
It starts by recommending the installation of a programmable thermostat in order to keep a closer track of where energy is being used.
Other tips include insulating the loft of a property – as a significant amount of heat escapes in this area – and replacing a boiler if it is coming towards the end of its life.
The newspaper goes on to advise people to lower the temperature on their water tank and repair leaks in the kitchen and bathroom.
USA Today is another publication to have recently spoken of the advantages of buying a new thermostat and setting it to a low level.
