A switch of energy supplier has the potential to save any homeowner money, although it may be an especially wise move by those living in particular properties.
Malcolm Harrison, an independent property industry expert, said older buildings can be impossible to go green in.
Indeed, he noted many people in ageing houses are restricted in a number of ways, limiting their options when it comes to introducing sustainable measures.
"In older properties you can't do much about any of it. For instance, there are a lot of areas where you get properties with sash windows and you aren't allowed to change [them]," Mr Harrison stated.
While people are becoming more aware of the need to do their bit for the environment, a switch of energy supplier may be the only realistic option for some.
The Treasury was recently accused by Building of failing to provide incentives for people to carry out a green refit on their homes.
