A raft of price rises in the home fuel sector may make a switch of energy supplier a necessity for many Britons.
The Independent reports E.ON's announcement of an increase in its tariffs is just the latest piece of bad news for households in the country.
Its changes are said to have an impact on more than four million customers, with standard prices surging by nine per cent for electricity and three per cent for gas.
And the result of this will be an extra 16p on the daily bill of a dual fuel consumer.
Meanwhile, the newspaper recalls British Gas, Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Energy have also raised their charges.
However, British Gas has announced a £50 credit scheme to help its most vulnerable customers, which it is thought will cost it about £37 million.
