Switch of energy supplier may be required after power price hike

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Customers of another dual fuel provider are set to feel the pinch and may only be saved by a switch of energy supplier.

The latest firm to announce a price hike is npower, which will raise its tariffs by 5.1 per cent on both electricity and gas.

News of the rise means more than half of the UK's big six power providers have recently announced they are increasing the amount they charge for fuel.

One way to beat this could be to make a switch of energy supplier, with an online comparison site perhaps holding the key to a more affordable rate.

Some people could instead opt to drive down the amount of power they consume, with tactics such as adding insulation to homes and being more conscious of leaving appliances turned on often proving worthwhile.

Audrey Gallacher, head of energy at Consumer Focus, recently described the emergence of online portals to compare electricity and gas as a "tremendous innovation".
