A switch of energy supplier has been put forward as one of the most effective ways for homeowners to save money on their fuel bills.
The Daily Mail cites research carried out by regulator Ofgem, which shows in excess of half the homes in the UK have never changed where they buy their power from.
And this may be an increasingly foolish move, with the difference between the average highest and lowest tariffs now £277 a year.
It urges people to log on to the internet and compare electricity via an online portal.
And for those who do not want to go through with a switch of energy supplier, a change in the tariff set by an existing provider is a shrewd choice, the newspaper suggests.
The Westborough News recently noted the addition of insulation and a programmable thermostat are other tactics people can use to save cash on power bills.
