Thousands take up winning Big Switch offer

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Around 36,000 people have decided to change their energy supplier in the aftermath of Which?'s Big Switch auction, taking up Co-operative Energy's winning offer, according to an article published by Which?.

Held on May 11, the Which? Big Switch auction saw a number of suppliers - including some of the big six energy companies - bid for customers, by offering their best energy tariffs. Co-operative Energy won the auction with a tariff that could, on average, save customers £223.22 each year.

Commenting on the amount of people choosing to take up the winning tariff, Which?'s executive director, Richard Lloyd, said: "The Big Switch was a UK first and despite some people saying it would fail, we managed to move the market by securing a new marketing-leading deal and have already delivered an average saving of over £200."

Executive director of 38 Degrees, a campaigning organisation, David Babbs, stated: "Thousands of us have come together to challenge the power of the big gas and electricity companies. We have achieved a fantastic result."
