The Energy Savings Trust (EST) has revealed the areas it believes are most committed to saving energy and cutting carbon dioxide emissions.
London, Cambridge, Gloucestershire, South Yorkshire and Hampshire were revealed as the regions of England that are most environmentally conscious.
In Scotland, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Dunbartonshire topped the bill, while Dyfed and County Atrim were the league toppers in Wales and Northern Ireland respectively.
The EST claimed that the most committed areas in England could save a collective 44,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year, as well as saving the economy in the region of £6.3 million.
England's worst offenders in terms of environmental consciousness - Humberside, Leicestershire, Lancashire, Cheshire and North Yorkshire - make annual savings of £184,000 and 1,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions, the EST suggested.
According to the EST website, nearly half of the UK's total carbon dioxide emissions is the result of everyday actions such as leaving lights on or over-filling the kettle.
