Which? finds consumers are 'still being misled' by energy suppliers

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Some energy suppliers are still not providing their customers with information on the cheapest tariffs, according to an article published by Which?.

During an initial investigation, carried out during November 2011, Which? exposed a number failings in the information provided by suppliers to consumers.

Which? recently conducted the investigation again - and found that while most suppliers have improved the information they provide, British Gas and E.On were still essentially 'misleading' consumers.

Commenting on the findings, Which?'s executive director, Richard Lloyd, said: "Since our investigation last year, several of the major suppliers have cleaned up their act and three gave accurate information every time.

"But with some companies still giving misleading advice and quoting a different price every time, it's no surprise that trust in energy companies is so low," Mr Lloyd added.

Which? passed on its findings to all suppliers and met with British Gas to discuss the findings in more detail.

British Gas managing director, Ian Peters, also commented on the results.

He said: "Which? has highlighted a number of important areas of consistency for us to review, which we are already doing as a priority."
