A leading energy supplier has announced that it has helped a charity project to reduce its annual fuel bill by 70 per cent.

E.ON, one of the big six UK power firms, donated £20,000 to the Magdalen Project in Chard to help fund a new biomass boiler to help heat the charity's community centre.

In news which could interest other organisation looking to reduce their energy bills through eco-measures, the charity has both lowered it annual statements and displaced an estimated 56 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Tom Jenkin-Jones, community relation executive at E.ON, said the firm was "delighted" to help the charity's dedication to sustainable living.

He added: "With the new system not only are they reducing their impact on the environment, they're also saving cash in fuel costs too, which is a definite win-win for everyone."

E.ON recently announced it was looking to reduce its energy prices for both business and residential customers if wholesale international electricity and gas prices continue to fall.
