EDF makes offer for electricity producer
EDF has made an offer for one of the largest producers of electricity in the UK, it has been announced.
The gas and electricity supplier has described its proposed acquisition of British Energy, which has been approved by the latter's shareholders, as "a great fit".
In a statement, EDF claimed the deal would boost its expertise in several areas, such as nuclear engineering, while it would also have several benefits for many of its clients.
The company explained: "For UK business and retail customers, this paves the way for huge investment in secure, economic energy supplies. This investment will help secure affordable energy for our customers for the long term.
"It is a responsible step towards addressing their concerns about wholesale energy prices and dwindling world fossil fuel supplies."
The offer for British Energy has come after EDF recently began trialling a new plug-in hybrid vehicle created by leading car manufacturer Toyota.
According to the energy company, the vehicle has been added to its company fleet and is tested daily by its employees.
